About Us

The site was started by two of the owners of MyJunkTee. The company helps people stop most of the unwanted direct mail or more commonly referred to as junk mail from coming to their homes. The company has been able to find an efficient way to help people stop the credit card offers, catalogs, phone books, weekly coupons, miscellaneous junk mail and the solicitations from charities and non-profits. But with over 50,000 different local papers there was no way to incorporate this into their website.

MyJunkTree was started because of all the junk mail the owners were receiving in their own mailboxes and once they did a little research they seen how big the problem really was. Besides being a huge waste of time dealing with all the junk mail there was a huge impact on the environment. There was just so much paper being wasted it seemed almost like a crime. Even if every piece was created using recycled materials, and it is not, it was wrong to not have a choice of what came to a person's home.

At a roundtable discussion the idea came up about the free papers we all found in our driveways and what an incredible waste it was since most of u don't even read it. Of course we are a little more sensitive about this issue so to balance our thoughts we talked to friends, neighbors and some of our "green" business associates and the outstanding consensus was that people should have a choice about receiving the papers. Hence, StopFreePapers was born.

As stewards of our environment we want to do everything we can to reduce our own carbon footprint and help others do the same. We believe that each of us can make a difference even in a small way. If the paper is not being read then it should not be delivered to a person's home, it is just a waste of paper. Of course if just a few people opt-out in a neighborhood the newspaper will never change their production run and the unused papers will just be recycled by the newspaper. However, we believe if there is an easy and effective way for people to make this choice they will and we can collectively make a difference.
